The purpose of Home Builders Care is to renovate or add on to existing homeless shelters for the temporarily homeless population of our community, defined as those persons needing shelter or protection for a time period between 30 days and 2 years. The temporarily homeless population includes individuals, families, and women in crisis pregnancies, the mentally disabled, victims of domestic violence, homeless youth and single parents with children. Causes for temporary homelessness include sudden job loss, catastrophic illness, spousal desertion, domestic violence or a combination of circumstances. Funding for Home Builders Care comes from donations; grants and fundraising events such as Playhouse Parade augment in-kind assistance provided primarily by the members of the Home Builders Association of Central Arizona.
